CHURCH COUNCIL.
MINISTERS AND LAYMEN. CHRISTIAN CONGREGATIONS. The annual meeting of the Auckland Council of Christian Congregations. was held last evening, about 20 members attending. The retiring president, the Rev. J. A. Thomson, said that although the Youth for Christ campaign had been managed by a committee representative of all the churches, the council had been the prime mover of it. It had met with very sincere < and enthusiastic support, especially among the youth organisations of the various churches, but he considered that matters should not be left standing where they were when the campaign closed. , The council should maintain touch with the youth organisations of the various churches "to keep alight the flame that has been kindled. The fifteenth annual report, which was adopted, mentioned, among tne visitors whom the council during the past year. Mr. Ivan Menzies, the well-known actor, of whom the report said "his radiant happiness, unquestioned sincerity and passionate evangelism did untold good to the city." Strong representations to the Government on the subject of lotteries and (rambling had been made, the report stated, and the Minister of Internal Affairs had been interviewed. It was to be regretted that art unions and the sale of sweep tickets were still permitted and the committee deplored such an economic waste and social evil. Tho meeting jvas briefly addressed by the Rev. E. P. Blamlrep, national secretary of the Bible in Schools League, on the subject of religious instruction in primary schools. The following officers were elected:— President, Dr. L. Gordon Druryj vicepresidents, Rev. J. A. Thomson, Rev. E. D. Patchett, Rev. A. O. Nelson; secretary and treasurer, Rev. L. B. Bitsfleld; solicitor, Mr. R. G. Sellar; committee, the Rev. Dr. H. Ranston, the Rev. Dr. A. Hodge, the Rev. Dr. J. J. North. Canon W. Fancourt, Majors Suter and Hildreth. tho Revs. W. E. Lush, AV. W. Averill, E. T. Olds, R. Ferguson Fish, P. Gladstone Hughes. Messrs. E. Smith, W. Birss. W. H. Whitelaw, C. H. Furness, J. S. Fairgray, H. Murdoch, W. S. Mackav, J. F. Roberts, W. E. Bnrlev, J. Tyler, H. H. Driver, F. W. Blakey. C. A. Whitney, D. Donaldson, W. D. M. Glaister, Egerton Gill and E. W. Burcli.
