CARRIER IN TROUBLE. TRUCK HITS SAFETY ZONE. - V (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A fine of £50 and cancellation of his license for two years was the' punishment imposed by Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M., to-day on Robert Alexander Johnston, a carrier, on a charge of being intoxicated when in charge of a motor truck. Johnston pleaded not guilty. Evidence showed that Johnston's truck levelled a well-lit concrete safety zone, and that he was under the influence of liquor when examined at the police station. The defence was that Johnston was suffering from concussion, due to the smash. Bad visibility was blamed for the smash.
