TRACK GALLOPS.

WORK AT WINGATUI,

VIKING GOES FAST.

TWO-YEAR-OLDS IN ACTION

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

DUXEDIN, this day.

Training operations at Wingatui this morning were carried out under idej| conditions, the weather being fine and th tracks in good order. .Most of the visitjn, horses from the north arrived overnight but none of them were given fast wort The most interesting piece of work wj, a gallop on the course proper by eeva youngsters, who, after some practice at the lialf-mile barrier, ran the full distant of the McLean Stakes. Forecast -was th! first to jump out, but before many strida Atalanta Lass took charge, and 'at th end of a furlong and a half Lord Nufiy! had run into second place. Atalanta La« led Lord into the straight, and at the distance the latter appeared to' have Atalanta Lass doing her best, but she was fully equal to the challenge, and drer away to head him by a length and a half in 535. Gusto finished on well and was a length away third. Atalanta'Lay is a half-sister by Iliad to Guarantee, and the satisfactory manner in which she per. formed this morning will bring her ■ into favour for Thursday's classic. Grand Finale held Waltham at all in a run over six furlongs on the tan. the last five taking 1.6. Travenna, who trotted very cramped when he first went out, was going much better than The Jeweller over six furlongs on the tan in 1.21 3-5. Bay Duke, with a big weight up, was travelling on the bit all the way over four furlongs on the grass in 52 3-fc Vantoon easily accounted for Toreador over six furlongs on the tan, the last fiy e in 1.8. Viking had Paladino for a mate in a run over six furlongs on the grass but beat him at the jump off, and had him scrambling all the way, the last four furlongs by Viking taking 50 4-ss. Silver Jest beat Lumiere over six furlongs on the tan, the last half-mile in ,545, but Lumiere gave the impression that she i could have done better. Polydora, looking well after her race at Kurow, was ridden by R. Beale over two schooling hurdles along the back. She afterwards completed a round on the tan. The Surgeon, looking better than when he finished third in the Geraldine Cup, was let off with threequarter pace work. Autumn Wind, apparently suffering no ill-effects from his breakaway along the road yesterday morning, was sprinted two furlongs on the grass track in 26 2-ss. Chrysology (W. Cooper) jumped two schooling hurdles along the back attractively. Darirfg Deed finished a neck in front of Golden King over a mile on the tan. Timed from the sevjn-furlong post, they took 40s for the next three furlongs, and 52 3-5s for the last four. Golden King was conceding weight to Daring Deed, and finished as if he could have done better. A large number of horses were exercised at half to three-quarter pace.
