CHAMBER MUSIC.

INTERESTING PROGRAMME. A musical treat was provided in the Lewis Eady Hall yesterday afternoon wlien the Auckland Chamber Music Society presented for a second time the programme previously given at its third concert. The players taking part were in excellent form and those present spenC two delightful hours listening to several charming and * tastefully contrasted numbers. The programme opened with Dvorak's melodious Trio in B Flat, played by Helen Gray (violin), Lalla Hemus ('cello) and Kathleen O'Leary (piano). This was given con amoie, the players combining sympathetically to present a -well-balanced ensemble notable for pleasing tone and good intonation. A most interesting feature of the concert was the performance of a group of trios by the same players. This comprised "Xecken," a Swedish folk song, "The Riding Messenger," a Danish folk song arranged by Herman Sandby, "Song of the Dale," a Swedish folk song, and "Dance," a Danish folk song. These tuneful and simple melodies made a pleasing contrast to the opening trio, the performers bringing out with much artistry all the lyric charm of the Scandinavian folk music. The concert concluded with the performance of Piano Quartet in A Major (Brahms) by the above-mentioned players with Lois Walls (viola). This fine work was played with spirit and good ta6te. Of the four movements, the lovely adagio, played with muted strings, was perhaps the most delightful. The audience, although unfortunately few in numbers, was most appreciative, and the players were warmly applauded for their musicianly work.
