PIRATE SHIPPE.
The first carnival dance of the summer season drew a record crowd to the Pirate Sliippe on Saturday night. The title, "A Night in the Cooler," served the double purpose of intimating that cooler clothing might be worn and also supplied the keynote to the decorative scheme. ' The stage setting was carried out entirely in stonework, relieved by barred windows and arches, the weathered effect introducing a colour note both restful and pleasing. "Cutouts" of bread and water were placed above the cubicles and also decorated the pillars. The Pirate Sliippe band, in their summer uniform of royal blue and white, supplied a fine programme of music. Among the guests were: Mesdames G. Booth, J. Hall, P. Charlton, Alison, Laycock, Steele, W. Lawrence, B. Findlav, Corbett, Harrison, Burgess, McKeown, | Wortliington and Waterhouse, and the I Misses G. Bartley, P. Boyce, J. Bond, i Hyland, Waddell, Holmes, Feclit, Lee, Tonner, Johnstone, Best and V. Tibbutt. I
