GIFT TO DOMINION.
AUSTRALIA'S GOODWILL. PAINTING OF CANBERRA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. In a letter from Mr. J. A. Lyons, Prime Minister of Australia, to Mr. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr. Lyons states that his Government has learned with great interest of t.he establishment of a national art gallery and he and his colleagues are desirous of marking the occasion by presenting to the gallery a painting which fs typical of the Federal capital of Canberra. ■ - The Commonwealth Government, adds Mr. Lyons, desires as an expression of the goodwill and interest of the Aus-. tralian people in the cultural progress and development of New Zealand that the gallery should accept a painting of Canberra. The execution of the painting has been entrusted to Mr. Robert Johnson, the well-known landscape painter, of Sydney, formerly of New Zealand, who will commence the work almost immediately.
