VIKING LAUNCHED.
OFF THIS MORNING. The well-known yacht Viking, which Mr. Ernest Davis presented to the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy for the training of naval ratings in the art of sail-" ing, was-launched shortly after 9 o'clock this morning l'rom the yards of Messrs. \V. G. Lowe and Son, Beaumont Street. The yacht looked resplendent in her shining coat or blacx, relieved with" a striking 'figure-head typical of her name, and a gold line around her hull. Naval officers were on board as she took the water without a hitch, and shortly after a lino was passed aboard, and the yacht towed to her permanent moorings eastward of Calliope wharf, where hi>r fitting out will be completed in time for the opening of the yachting season next month. The Viking was built to fhe order of Messrs. .T. L. R. and IT. R. Bloomfield, of Parncll, by Mr. Chas. Bailey, and launched in November, 1S!)3. ■ She is U7ft overall, 12ft beam; and !)ft draught. Originally painted black, she was later changed to the conventional white topsides. Her racing rig was ii'j a cutter, but for cruising she wbb rigged as a yawi, and is now rigged as a ketch. 'i
