CARRIERS ORGANISE.
OVERLAPPING OF AREAS* A largely attended meeting of carriers from the Drury, Papakura, Clevedon and Manurewa districts was held at Papakura. The chairman, Mr. Percy Johnson, explained that since their last meeting new complications had arisen, and that he now considered there was no necessity for unlicensed carriers to join up with the association. To include unlicensed carriers would, lie .said, prejudice the position of licensed carriers. In the discussion that followed several speakers pointed out that as the six-mile exempted area in town districts had been eliminated, many of the local carriers would have to take out licenses, as their carting overlapped the city to Papakura town boundary exempted area by distances of half a mile and over. The licensed carriers decided to form an association, and elected. Mr. Percy Johnson chairman and Mr. J. Suckling secretary and treasurer. It was suggested by several speakers that exempted.areas should be abolished or reduced to Penrose and Qtahuliu..
