AUCKLAND PASSENGERS,
Although a heavy roll gave warning of a gale not very far away, the Union Company's passenger steamer Marama, which arrived from Sydney this morning and berthed at the Queen's wharf, experienced moderate weather in the Tasman Sea, and her crossing was uneventful. From here she is to go to Wellington, and thence to Sydney. On her return to Wellington she is to be transferred to the Melbourne service, while the new steamer Awatea will replace her in the Sydney run.
Among her passengers were Mr. C. R. Buchanan, late chief steward of the Monowai, who lias been appointed to a similar post in the new ship, and 14 men who are also to join the Awatea.
On their way to Christchurch, after a short visit to Australia, Mr. C. Ballantyne, of the firm of Ballantyne and Hunter, and Mrs. Ballantyne, arrived by the vessel.
Better known in Auckland as Dr. Chesson, formerly medical officer of health, Dr. H. dies-son Larnder returned after a visit to relatives in Australia.
