LOWER FREIGHT.
RATES ON HONEY.
EXPORTS FROM DOMINION.
MINISTER IS PLEASED,
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day.
The Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, announced to-day that as from to-day the overseas freight rates on New Zealand honey would be nearly 50 per cent lower as they had been almost cut in half.
This would mean a great saving to honey producers, stated Mr. Nash, as they had previously paid 76/ sterling for 40 cubic feet of space. Now they were to pay only 40/. The Minister said he had earlier in the year investigated the freight paid on the export of honey, and found that it was the highest of the four Pat-Vic countries studied. Negotiations had been commenced with the shipping companies through the New Zealand Government representatives in London and, as a result, the freight rate on honey was now the lowest of the countries studied. "I am more than pleased with the result," concluded Mr. Nash.
