PRICE OF TOBACCO.

first schedule issued. NO IMPORTANT CHANGES. The Tobacco Trade Council issued the first schedule of tobacco and cigarette prices in Auckland yesterday. Ihe council is <1 recently formed organisation representative of manufacturers, wholesale distributors and retail tobacconists. A few minor alterations only so far as cigarettes are concerned, have been made. Certain lines of imported pipe tobacco have been raised 2d an ounce. The wholesaler's margin of profit on tobacco has been narrowed in favour of the retail trade. It was thought that manufacturers would advance prices, but the impression now is that the rise will not be put into cffeet until the Government is prepared to make corresponding adjustments in tariffs so that overseas tobaccos and cigarettes would not gain a market advantage. Any such action is not thought possible until the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, has completed his visit to England. Mrs. Alyee M. Reid, the famous stylist now en route from the Continent and U.S.A., will conduct brilliant foundatiou and fashion reviews on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, September S, 9 and 10." Make an early reservation: Afternoon teas 1/6. Reception Hall, Milne and Choyce, Ltd. — (Ad.)
