GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

MAIZE STILL DEAR. MOKE CALIFORNIAN ONIONS.' * Since last report there has been little movement in the prices of grain and general produce. Supplies of pollard are still available from the local mills and imports of Australian are also coming forward regularly. Demand for both is good and prices are unchanged. There is no alteration in the bran market. Horse feed is selling steadily at late rate, B Garton oats at 4/3 jjer bushel and Southern chaff at £8 17/6 per ton. The market for fowl wheat is very steady, with Southern holders firm. There is a good demand in Auckland at about 6/2 per bushel for graded lines. Maize is still very scarce and dear. The harvest, both in the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne, is 'obviously short and holders are apparently under tile impression that prices will go still highet'. However, the present rate, 6/9 per bushel through store, is out of proportion to other grains and any increase would still further curtail consumption, especially as maize never sells so freely in warm weather. The Australian barley market is very firm and prices across the Tasman have advanced, with the result that some orders from this centre have been cancelled. However, substantial stocks are held in the city and there is no change in prices meanwhile. Local supplies of potatoes are fairly plentiful at the moment and the price of whites has been dropped 5/ a ton to £8 7/6. Dakotas are less plentiful and are quoted at a premium of 10/. The Southern market is firm, being supported by the hope that further shipments may be made to South America. The onion market is very quiet. Local stocks of Californian and Japanese are still in the hands of merchants and a further shipment of Californian is due to arrive next Monday. These have been sold "to arrive" at 17/ a bag, which is above the present through store price. Wholesale Current Prices. Pollard and Bran.—Mill prices: Pollard, £6 10/ per ton; bi#n, £6.
