LOCAL BODIES.

ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL. A meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council last night was presided over by the Mayor, Mr. J. Park. Committees Appointed.—The following committees were set up:—Streets: Messrs. E. Gilchrist (chairman), P. C. Jamiesoii and A. A. Coates. Waterworks: The Mayor (chairman), Messrs. G. E. Haydon, S. Bishop, A. Garside and M. C. Barnett. Legal and .finance: Chairman of each committee and deputy-Mayor, Mr. A. A. Coates. Library: Messrs. A. A. Coates (chairman), N. Benfell and A. Garside. Parks and reserves: Messrs. A. A. Coates (chairman), S. Bishop, A. Garside and N. Benfell. Purchasing: Messrs. W. F. Cox (chairman), N. Benfell, P. C. Jamieson and S. Bishop. Band: Messrs. S. Bishop (chairman), A. Garside and M. C. Barnett. Deputy-Mayor: Mr. A. A. Coates. Delegates to Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies' Association: Messrs. A. A. Coates and W. E. Cox

Resignation.—Mr. Barnett's resignation of the position of chairman of the reserves committee was accepted.

Labourers' Wages.—The Department of Labour advised that it would be necessary in the case of subsidised workers to pay the full amount of the award wages where these exceed 2/ per hour. The continuation of the present subsidy was dependent on this being done. In the case of relief workers, it was necessary that the time factor should be adjusted in order to bring the hourly rate of pay on to the higher standard. The letter was referred to the council in committee.

Tenders—The council accepted the tender of £12 submitted by G. Shelley for the removal of about 130 trees from Hillsboro' Cemetery. Two other tenders were received, the highest being £45.

Tram Shelter—The Auckland Transport Board agreed to bear half the cost of an approved tram shelter to be erected at Royal Oak, where six roads meet. As the Mount Roskill Road Board intimated to the council its approval of the tram shelter, it is to be asked to pay one quarter share of the cost ancl Onehunga will do the same.

.Tram Fares—A motion protesting against the recent increase in workers weekly tram tickets, proposed by Mr. S. Bishop, lapsed for want of a seconder.

Cycle Races. —In reply to the Gloucester Cycle Club's request .to hold bicycle races at the Recreation Reserve, Waikaraka, during the coming summer, the council decided that the club might renew its application later in the year.
