AUCKLAND WIN. LADIES' TOURNEY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) BLENHEIM. Monday. Fine but dull weather prevailed for the second day of the New Zealand women's hockey tournament. The ground!" were heavy as a result of the play on Saturday, followed by further rain yesterday. Tlie foatures of to-day's matches were the Ueeitnve wins scored by Eastern Southland, Wellington, Canterbury, Marlborough 1! and Wairarapa.
I In section A. Otago and Marlborough are j undefeated, and it appears the issue lies ' between them for the section honours. I Canterbury is showing the best form in | section B, and appears assured of reaching the semi-finals. Eastern and Wellington, on tile play to date, are the strongest in section C. Neither has yet been Uefeated. To-day's results a*e :—- Section A.—Marlborough B 4, beat Ashburion 0; Otngo 3, beat Southland 0; Ituahine a bye. CANTERBURY BEATEN.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Monday. Playing at Steele Park this afternoon Walkato hockey representatives defeated the touring Canterbury team by 3 goals to 1. The ground was heavy, placing the visitors' fast forwards at a disadvantage. Wuikato's score opened with a penalty goal, and a few minutes later the left wing, Burns, scored from a penalty corner. A strong, Canterbury rush followed, Kadcliffe snapping a quick shot past the goalie. In the second spell the visitors were on the attack lor prolonged periods, but the Walkato tiefence was sound, the goalie, Smillie, being particularly safe. About halfway through the spell Waikato penetrated quickly through the centre, and T. A. lOwan snapped in a high shot which the
goalie could not reach. From then on Canterbury had a number of shots at goal, but 110 further score resulted.
The Canterbury junior representatives defeated a Waikato junior team by 3 goals to 0, the scorers being E. McCormick (2) and A. Norman.
WHANGAREI MATCHES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Monday. The final of the country section of the Wliangarei Hockey Association men's championship provided a very close content. The two teams iu the final, Mata and Mangapai, had drawn the previous Saturday, and" in the replay last Saturday again played a drawn game, after an extra 20 minutes had been allowed. Fur Mata, \V. Johns and L. Price scored and Byles and Ormandv scored tor Mangapai. On the toss of a coin, Mata won the match.
The final of the town section resulted:—• Wesley 2 (Preeble and Wilson) beat United 1 (H. Patterson;.
