BAD COOKS?
ATTACK ON N.Z. WOMEN
WELLINGTON MAYOR'S OPINION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Can New Zealand women cook? The Mayor of Wellington, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, rather thinks they cannot, and what it* more, he said so at an assembly, mainly of women, at the annual meeting of tho Wellington branch of the Plunket Society.
"How many of you ladies sitting here can put your hands on a woman who can cook?" he challenged, and hastily added: "Other than yourselves." The audience exchanged glances when the Mayor pressed on with the remark: "The amount of good food ruined by bad cooking is shocking."
Mr. Hislop said his observations might not bo popular, but they were true, mid he supposed lie would get into trouble for such an opinion. If the society desired to enlarge its activities why not teach women of New Zealand how to cook properly.
lii defence of his own household, the Mayor said that he was not speaking as 0110 "who had suffered through bad cooking. Mr. Hislop also added that cooking in most New Zealand hotels was appalling.
