WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
TURANGARERE. Mrs. presided at the August meeting 'of the Turangarere Women's Institute. A report 011 the recent conference held in Dunedin was read by the president, who attended as delegate. Parcels of books'for the Women's Institute library were received from Mesdames Samways, Fowler, K. L. Anderson and L. P. Anderson. A demonstration 011 smocking was given by Mrs. Eraser, of Eangitana. The competition for the month was won by Mrs. Nairn, while Mrs. Polio and Dulcie Bartcll gained equal points for second place. A iompetition, jumbled words, was won by Mrs. Brophy.
MANGAWEKA. The August meeting of the Mangaweka Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs. Ginnane presiding. Mrs. Ginnane gave an interesting report on the Dominion conference at Dunedin, after which Miss W. Harris entertained with two songs. The birthday cake was cut at this meeting by Mrs. Ferber, the oldest member present, after the four candles had been lighted by Miss M. Gard'ner. An amusing face-drawing competition was won by Mrs. Kirkby. Miss Ida Dickinson was first and second in the competition for egglcss cakes and the prettiest knitted article for a lady was won by Miss M. Dickinson, Miss D. Collis second and Miss E. Oulsnam third.
WAIUKU. The monthly meeting of the Waiuku Women's Institute was held recently in the Public Hall. Members of the Homni Institute, Waiuku's "Little Sister," were present and provided a programme of entertainment that was enthusiastically received. Mrs. Madill, president of the Waiuku Women's Institute, presided, and on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Collier, vice-president of the Homai Women's Institute; with a bouquet. The programme was presented by Mesdames Denize, White, Sheldon, and Misses V. Sheldon, Hood, Fen wick. Pat Wall, B. Terry, B. Bond, and Joan Denize. Waiuku arts and crafts circle had on view a table of exhibits, and the junior circle also had on view books of mounted New Zealand flora A competition for three bread rolls was won by Mrs. Richa-dson. and for a Alb pat of butter by Mrs. M. Harvey. Cut-out garments were distributed from the winter cheer table for completion.
