PIRATE SHIPPE.
Capturing the true nursery rhyme spirit the decorations at the Pirate Shippe on Saturday night were distinctly .novel and effective. Based on the rhyme of "Hey Diddle "Diddle," and supported by appropriate musical numbers, the carnival proved highly diverting and kept the large crowd of guests fully entertained until midnight. The man in the moon smiled knowingly down from a midnight sky upon the bandstand whilst thei cow, whose reputation for athletic feats, has survived the passage of time, repeated her famous performance for the Benefit of the guests. Other humorous, bovine specimens gambolled in the moonlight. The cat, which caused the mischief, meanwhile sawed away at his violin to the consternation of the dish, which promptly decamped with the traditional spoon. Little dogs laughed from every music stand, and smiled down at the' guests from the cubicles and pillows. In keeping with with' the theme the musical programme was carefully selected, and included many numbers particularly appropriate for an old-time programme. Pleasant memories were revived with such items as "Georgie Porgie," "Three Blind Mice," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Nuts and May," "London Bridge," "Cock Robin," and many others. Among the large number of guests were noticed Mesdames Charlton, George, Scott, Findlay, Lawrence, Crandle, Burgess, Scheigus, Thomson, Rowe, Palmer, Hall, Harrison, Fisher, Kitcliingmari, Waterhouse, and Misses Fecht (2), Evans, D. Brooke, Armstrong, Shaw, Morgan, D. Davis (Taihape), G. Davis, Swan (Hamilton), Moore (Wellington), Kell-Jones, Farrell, Atherton, Power and Wells.
