SCHOOL CONCERT.
An entertaining musical and dramatic evening was given by pupils of Vasanta Garden School on Thursday evening. There was a la>ge attendance of parents and friends and those interested in the work of Auckland's pioneer open-air and freo time-table school.
Part songs were given by the seniors, pianoforte solos by Fay McAnenev, and a display of Indian club swinging by Jocelyn Wells. A pretty playlet, "The Elf Child," was performed by the juniors, and the middle school staged a delightful version of "Alice in Wonderland," in which there was some outstanding acting, the children revelling in their amusing parts. The cast was: "Alice," Betty Silverwoort; "March Hare," Armond Dunningham; "Cook," Patricia Hastings; "Duchess," Margaret Neilson; "Queen of Hearts," Joy HanIon; "King," Joan Hastings; "Dormouse," Joan Longhurst; "Mad Hatter," Keith Atkinson; "Cheshire Cat," Lawrence Russell.
The sombre play of revolutionary days in Russia, "The House with the Twisty Windows," was performed by the pupils of the secondary school, who staged the play recently during the Junior Drama League Festival. They gave a more finished performance on this second presentation. The cast was: James Roper, K.C., Jocelyn Wells; Charlie Clive, Sheila Mason; Lady Ponting, Freda Powell; Heather Sorrell, Lena Robertson; Anne Sorrell, Joan Mulholland; Derrick Moore, Margaret Hurst; Stepan, Joy Hanlon.
The evening concluded with a cleverly lit and strikingly set tabluau, "The Dawn," with Joan Mulholland as the central figure, and an accompaniment of choral speaking.
