REFUSED ENTRY.

ACTION BY CUSTOMS.

Australian Wool Samples i

Japan,

BRITISH TRADERS' CHANCE.

United Press Association.—Copyright.

(Received 10 a.m.) TOKYO, August 6.

Customs at Osaka, Kobe and Yokohama refused entry to samples of the new Australian wool clip, shipped by the Canberra Maru. Consequently they were returned to Tokyo. The Japanese Federation of Woollen Weavers' Guilds lias petitioned the Department of Commerce to restrict imports of British woollen goods. Japanese merchants allege that, largely on account of the Australian trade controversy, there has been a sharp rise in prices of woollen goods. British traders are trying to seize the opportunity to recover lost ground. It is believed that if the market remains firm imports of British piece goods will reach a value of £000,000 —double last year's total.
