TRAFFIC OUTLETS.
The money which it is proposed to spend on- a scenic road at Titirangi could well be diverted to the construction of the new eastern outlet. There were several schemes and routes put forward, as outlined in the "Star" some tiriie ago, and with the increase of traffic, also .the necessity of providing a qtiick outlet 'front 7 '* ? the city tri the Great South Road, this scheme should take precedence over the Titirangi work. At present all traffic goes through Newmarket, which, with its narrow thoroughfare, is a very congested area at rush hours. Not only that the new route would be shorter; it would also open up a good deal of vacant •land in close. proximity to the city, thereby benefiting the city in increased rates, and it would relieve traffic congestion, which is becoming very serious. The Titirangi scheme would.benefit only those who have motor card, and they are well provided for in scenic drives of all descriptions in all directions, equal to, if not better than, those available in other ■parts of .Xew Zealand. To my mind, the eastern outlet is a very urgent work and should be seriously considered by the authorities as being the more important "and advantageous to Auckland as fc whole. D. LEVICK.
