ACCIDENT ON STEAMER.

SEAMAN'S FINGER CRUSHED.

When the Oceanic and Oriental cargo steamer Golden Coast, which left Auckland for Wellington pliortly before noon yesterday, was nearing Tiri Tiri one of her seamen; Mr. George Papas, of San Francisco, had the first "finger bf his right hand almost severed as the result of a ladder falling on it.

Captain Svedstrup at once communicated by wireless with Messrs. Henderson and McFarlane, Ltd., the local agents for the ship,' who sent a launch out to meet the ship, which had turned and was heading for port.

. The injured man was transferred to the launch and landed at the man-o'-war steps, where a St. John ambulance was waiting to take him to hospital. Mr. Papas will go to Wellington to-night to rejoin his. ship.
