HOMILY BY MR. DEAN.

ARAWAS AND SPRINGBOKS. BREAKING DOWN PREJUDICES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The declaration that he thinks the strongest and wisest course is to expect the Springboks to conform to the codes of New Zealand 011 their visit next year, is made by Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of 'the management; committee of the New Zealand -Rugby Union. • This is a reply he has sent to Mr. H. T. Mitchell, of Rotorua, to a memorandum prepared recently by the Arawa Maoris announcing their intention of not having anything to do with the 1937 South Africans, 011 or off the field, because of incidents at Rotorua and elsewhere in 1921.

Mr. Dean also states that the question of where, and whom, the Springboks should play is a matter for the New Zealand Rugby Union, but he asks the Arawas to reflect whether the happy example of both white and brown races living together, in New Zealand, may not have an influence iu breaking down the prejudices condemned by the Arawas.

•In addition Mr. Dean suggests that tribal leaders may draw inspiration from their tribal history of sportsmanship and chivalry as to the wisest course to follow with the Springboks.
