SUBSTANTIAL ADVANCE.

The motor registration branch of the Post Office having completed the national figures relating to renewal of motor vehicles licensed as at June, 30, announces that the grand total of vehicles licensed (excluding dealers' licenses) was 157,582. This represents an increase over the 1935 registrationsof 20,508, or 12.27 per cent. This substantial advance lias been almost equally shared between motor ears and commercial vehicles, the I l '- C o < :'2 se in tlle former having been l->, 34/, or 13.33 per cent, and in the case of commercial vehicles 4915, equal to . P or cent. Motor cycles increased in number by 246 (1.79 per cent). - The following are details from all registration districts of motor vehicles icensecl as at June 30 last compared with the totals at the same date last year:— I , ~ Cai "s- Inc. Xcw Zealand now has a motor vehicle lor approximately every six persons, in its population, a figure only exceeded by the United States with a motor vehicle for every 4.9 of population. The latest available figures-show- that the Canadian proportion is the same as Ifew Zealand and that Australia has a motor vehicle for every 11 persons residing in the Commonwealth. °
