BUDGET VIEWS.

"QUITE SOUND."

BANKERS' OPINIONS.

RESTORING CREDIT. RELIEF AND SATISFACTION. "Wlien the overseas cabled comment is received, I will not be surprised .if it is not congratulatory to Mr. Nash," stated the manager of an Auckland bank this morning. His comment, which was much on the lines of statements of other bank managers, was that, considered as a whole, the 1936 Budget was a sound one, and would be received with considerable satisfaction bv most sections of the community. Mr. Nash had proceeded on orthodox lines, and the result would do much to allay any feeling of insecurity that had been •existent. "I expect," lio Said, speaking jocularly, "that a lot of men in the Dominion will sleep moro soundly to-night than they have done for some days past. Of course, the worst ■moments are those when you are approaching the 'doctor's door.' We can look forward to a happy Christmas now." While expressing this opinion, banking men generally stated that it was impossible to criticise individual items specifically until the full papers were received dealing with the various phases of the Budget. It seemed, however, they said, to have been received with relief- and satisfaction by such members of the business community as they had come in contact with. The land tax proposals would affect big businesses in the city considerably, and that matter would have to be reviewed before a definite statement could be made. It was pleasing to see that there was nothing very startling in the basis of the Budget proposals, and Mr. Nash's orthodox manner of procedure would do much to allay any feelings of insecurity that had' arisen overseas following Mr. Savage's statements concerning loan conversion.
