General regret was felt in the many Presbyterian Churches of Wellington on bunday at the announcement of the death early that morning in his seventy-ninth year, '.of Mr. John Armour Thomson, session clerk of St.- Andrew's Church, The Terrace. Born at Kilmarnock, Scotland, in 185S, he arrived in Wellington in 187S and was- on the staff of - the Pensions Department when lie retired in 1921. In his younger days lie was well known as a Rugby footballer, being a member of the Athletic Club. As a wing threequarter he was a strong runner and an accurate drop-kicker. He represented Wellington 16 times, iplaying two games against the first New South Wales team to visit New Zealand in ISB2. Mr. Thomson was a member of the Athletic Park Committee, and-was. with others, largely instrumental in obtaining this fine ground for Rugby football. Rowing also claimed his active support, and he was a member of the Star Boating Club. Besides being keenly interested in other branches of sport, including cricket, lie took part as a sprinter in the chief athletic meetings in the city ,in his day.
