CHATEAU AFFAIR.
£600 PAID TO EX-MANAGER.
"FOR INJURIES SUSTAINED."

WELLINGTON, this day.
According to the statement of expenditure last year not authorised by Parliamentary vote, the Department of Industries and Commerce 1 paid Mr. 11. Cobbe, former manager of Chateau Tongariro, a compassionate grant of £600 "for injuries sustained during the performance of his duties."
A compassionate grant of £411 was made to the daughter of the late Mrs. McCombs, M.P.
Mr. Cobbe was seriously injured in a disturbance at the Chateau, and for some time his life was in danger. Subsequently he brought ail action against a man who was a guest at the Chateau at the time of the affray, and was awarded damages.
