IN DETAIL.

REPORT ON HOSPITAL CLAUSE BY CLAUSE ANALYSIS. Further discussion, clause by clause, of tlie report prepared by Mr. G. Grey Campbell on the administration of the Auckland Hospital, was carried out by members of tlie Hospital Board last evening. The chairman, the Rev. YV. C. YY 7 ood presided.

A suggestion was- made at the opening by Mr. E. H. Potter, that discussion on the report be deferred until a report had been received by the board from the architects on a new administration block. It was a waste of time, he said, to discuss further the proposals contained in tlie report, for the reason that the hospital did not at present have adequate buildings to carry out the projiosals.

Mrs. M. ; M. Dreaver: If every office and every building were burned out, we would still have to carry on.

In the course of a lengthy discussion, it was agreed, on the motion of Dr. i',. B. Gunson, that tenders for vegetables supplied to the hospital be called for. Lengthy discussion took place on the conduct of the hospital dispensary, and it was decided that the dispensary should not become a manufacturing business. On the motion of Mr. W. G. Mulholland, it was decided that a round table conference of the heads of departments be held to discuss the various aspects of porters' duties, the medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Craven, to report back to the board. When the meeting was about to adjourn until next Tuesday for further discussion on Mr. Campbell's report, Mr. Mulholland said he thought it was only fair to members of the board and to the public, to ask Mr. Grey Campbell directly whether he had supplied a copy of his report to the Press. Mr. Campbell: Emphatically, no. I| was very careful about the release of the report, and I protected myself in that respect. Mr. Mulholland: It appears that one of the members of the board saw fit to give information to the Press before it came before the board. That was not a proper procedure. There were cries of, "I did not" from various members. Mr. Potter: The meeting when the report came down was in open board and the Press were quite entitled to it. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Grey Campbell said he wanted to make it clear to the board that not one member had suggested to him how lie should report. Whether his conclusions were good, bad or indifferent, he would stand'or fall by them. He had not been influenced in any way by any member of the board, and the suggestions contained were entirely his own.
