ADVICE TO CAMERAMEN.
"To "et a job in motion pictures, don't come to Hollywood. Stay right in your own home town, and Hollywood will come to you." This is the advice of Hal Mohr, photographer who did the camera work on "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Captain Blood" and "Green Pastures," and won the Academy award this year. "I get hundreds of letters from boys wanting to know how to become studio cameramen," says Molir. "The writers all want to come here, and that is the worst thing to do. Begin at home as an amateur camera man. Practise on your friends with your home camera. Learn all you can about trick photography, lighting effects, enlarging and finishing." Years ago in San Francisco Mohr began that way, and made his own motion picture camera to photograph local news events.
"I sold some of these to our motion picture theatre," he added, "and they were instantly popular. This beginning finally led me to Hollywood. That same opportunity exists to-day."
