SCHOOL FESTIVAL.
FINAL RESULTS ANNOUNCED. Vocal, dancing and instrumental music were the sections of a competition series held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings between pupils of the Ponsouby, Bayfield and Richmond Road schools, under the organisation of a Ponsonby parents' committee. The president, Mr. A. C. Norden, thanked the donors of a silver cup and several medals. The judges were Mr. M. Wilcox, singing and instrumental, and Miss Anita Webster, dancing and elocution. In consequence of the success of the festival it has been decided to stage it annually. A silver cup given anonymously for the highest aggregate in the girls' dancing section was won by Anita Copeland (Ponsonby). Winners in each section were:— Dancing.—National dance, open: Helen Coney. Sword dance: 14 and under, Anita Copeland; 10 and under, Dawn Benseman. Highland fling: 14 and under. Glen Hewer; 10 and under, Gordon Dryland. Irish jig: 14 and under, Anita Copeland; 10 and under, Ken Rhodes. Character dance: Glen Hewer and Anita Copeland (tie). Tap and skipping: 14 and under, Anita Copeland; 10 and under, Colin Haw. Song and dance: 14 and under, Helen Coney; 10 and under, Norma Jones. Waltz: Eunice Leach. Sailors' hornpipe: 14 and under, Anita Copeland. Operatic and toe: Glen Hewer.
Instrumental. —Piano solo: 15 and under, Lawrence Alexander and Eunice Leach (tie); 14 and under, Violet James; 12 and undef, Douglas Matheson; 10 and under, Barbara Averill and Jack Davies (tie); eipclit and under, Estclle Phillips.
