HOSPITAL RELIEF.
INCREASE IN PRICES FELT,
Drawing attention to the fact that owing to the sharp rise in the price of foodstuffs the recipients of hospital relief were not receiving the amount of food originally intended, a joint deputation from the Working Woman Movement and the National Unemployed Workers' Movement waited this week on the relief committee of the Auckland s Hospital Board. The Working Woman Movement was represented by Mrs. E. Cottinjxham and the unemployed workers by Mr. J. H. Edwards. The deputation advanced the opinion that a general increase in the amount of the ration orders was required to bring the orders to their value previous to the rise in prices. Speaking for the relief committee, Mr. W. A. Bishop acknowledged the position as outlined was correct, but pointed out that although the board was prepared to assist any individual applicant who was receiving an inadequate allowance, it was impossible to grant a general increase, owinsr to the fact that the board had already exceeded its budgeted allowance. The deputation thanked the relief committee for their courteous reception.
