ROYAL ASSENT.
.THE FINANCE ACT.. RESTORATION OF "CUTS." RETROSPECTIVS TO JULY. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Royal assent has been {riven the Finance Bill, and it is now law. The Act. the principal provision in ■which is the restoration as from July of "cuts"' in salaries and wages to the 1931 level, had a stormy passage through the House of Representatives. However, it was quickly put through all stages in the Legislative Council. Many employers and firms throughout New Zealand have been awaiting the passing of the Act before increasing wages, as is now provided.
Other clauses in the Act give the Government extended powers to borrow on Treasury bills up to the full extent of the country's estimated expenditure.
