ELLERSLIE GALLOPS.

THIS MORNING'S WORK.

FLEETWIND AND "VERS ANT. C. JENKINS RIDES A TRIAL. Fine weather prevailed during the training operations at Ellerslie this morning, but owing to recent rain the going was heavy. There was more work than usual, but nothing of an outstanding nature was recorded. Fleetwind and Versant were first out, and after running their initial three furlongs in 395, completed six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. It was the best of the morning over that distance, and Fleetwind, who had much the better of the weights, was in front at the finish. Tybalt finished up a useful task by running his final three furlongs in 41s. He is coming to hand nicely. Teddy Boy and Jewelled Girdle were together throughout six furlongs, which occupied 1.22 2-5, the first three being covered in 40 3-ss. Jewelled Girdle is on the improve. Persian Lady strode home from the three furlongs post in 43 l-ss, and l-toyal Appellant was allotted useful work, but was not after time. Knight of Australia registered 1.10 3-5 for the last five furlongs of his work. This horse is in fine order for spring meetings. Caliente was going easily while running five furlongs, the last three ol which she covered in 43 2-ss. Trevaee and Te Hai reeled off three furlongs in 39 4-ss, the best of the morning over the distance. Te Hai did his work well, and Trevaee also impressed- Armacourt got a break on Tooley Street at the half-mile post, but the latterjwas close up at the finish, the time being 53 3-ss, Tooley Street's time was 52 3-ss, this being a good effort. Armacourt was ridden by C; Jenkins, one of the Dominion's best horsemen over a decade ago. Etama and Lone Flier went nicely while running three furlongs in 42 3-ss. Tidewaiter and Master Brierly averaged about 15s to the furlong over the last part of their work. United and Horowhenua, after running the first three in 40 2-os, got to the end of six furlongs in 1.23. Valise followed them and was going very easily over five furlongs, which occupied 1.11. Whirlmint went away from the six furlongs post, and increased the pace to cover the last half-mile in 575. Kelly, Gay Defenco and Hope Lass were on the tracks this morning doing pace work, having been recommissioned after a spell.

King Ara (Williams) gave his usual good display while negotiating four hurdles in the centre.
