FREEDOM OF PRESS.
«FALSE IDOL" TO ITALIANS. ROME. The Press Ministry's Budget report for 1936-37 contains the following: "The false idols of freedom of the Press and of the fourth estate, conceived by liberalism and democracy as the absurd privileges of journalism, have been shattered by the Fascist revolution."
For these "false idols," the report said, the Fascist Government has substituted "independence from -every private or special interest, more or lees legal and admitted; release from this or that political power, not always subject to control within the nation's boundaries; liberty to serve solely the interests of the nation, which are the interests of all Italians.; pride of being finally and effectively under a single banner, that which symbolises the glory and riches of the fatherland."
