GARDEN LOVERS,
BIRKENHEAD CARD SOCIAL. The sum of £5 was raised for the prize fund of the Waitemata Horticultural Society's spring show in September at a card social in the Buffalo Hall at Birkenhead. The organisers were: Mrs. F. G. Blaekwell, Mrs. J. Prickett, Mrs. C. M. Burton (representing Birkenhead), Mrs. R. F. Featherstone, Mrs. J. L. Hanna and Mrs. H. N. Leefe (representing Northcote). The hall was tastefully decorated by Mrs. Stanley Mills and Mrs. J. Prickett. The tables were in charge of Mrs. F. G. Blaekwell and Mrs. R. F. Featherstone. The gathering was welcomed by the president, Mr. J. L. Hanna, who was assisted by Mrs. Hanna. The prizes were presented by the Mayoress of Birkenhead, Mrs. G. Mills, to the. winners as follows:—Bridge, Mrs. M. Markwick and Mrs. L. O. Tarbutt; hidden number, Mrs. W. B. Darlow and Mr. A. McNeilage; 500, Mrs. J. Logic; and mah jong, Mrs. E. B. Gilfillan.
