ONLOOKER'S VIEWPOINT.

SOCCER TRANSFER SYSTEM

E. L. Reed writes:—"lt is to 'be hoped that those Aueklanders who enjoy-scien-tific Soccer will not miss the second and last opportunity of seeing the Australian team in' action here. The Australians demonstrate that the dour, death or victory style of Xew Zealand football is not the best. Militating against the game in Auckland is the scramble of clubs for players with reputations and the transfer of the best players from weak clubs to the stronger. There is a double evil in this, for the reserve players of clubs which bring in strangers are denied their rights to display their talents in better class football, and the club robbed finds its effort to rise nullified. However, for the present, the officials who rule the game not only do not object, 'but actually facilitate these transfers, so that club spirit, the prime necessity of good football,' is left to languish. Contrary to the quality of mercy, these transfers are twice cursed —afflicting 'both giver and receiver."
