STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR, J (From Our Own Correspondent.) \ SUVA, June 30. | At the opening of the Legislative' Council last week the acting-Governor I the Hon. Juxon Barton, gave a clear account of the financial situation in l'iji. lie said: "The ordinary revenue for 1935 was £710.222, or £108,888 more than the estimate and £109.0G5 more than the revenue for 19,34. The extraordinary revenue amounted to £23 310 leaving a total of £733,432. The total expenditure for the vear i was £G41,181, of which £35,734 'was j expended from surplus balance upon works approved by the council. The result of the year's working wa< a surplus (net) of £82,251, and the : accumulated surplus funds of the colony were increased to the record : uguie of £353,410.
