STABLE AND TRACK NOTES.

SISTER TO PHAR LAP. ; EapHis is the name registered for a i. 'brown filly by Night Raid from Entreaty. ' This youngster, who. will be two years old on August 1, is a full-sister to the 1 renowned Phar Lap, who met an untimely end in America a'few seasons ago. MAY MAKE AMENDS. The promising novice Golden Ridge did not ; meet with the best of luck in the running of the Maiden Scurry at Napier Park last week, and the Lackham gelding in finishing fourth drew further attention to his ability. Engaged in - the maiden event at Darinevirke next week, he will have an opportunity to make amends. WILL HAVE EVERY CHANCE. Reports fron) Te Rapa> state that Blackman has been shaping well in his schooling tasks recently. The Nigger Minstrel gelding is the ideal type to make a name -for himself as a jumper, and he will get £ every opportunity under J. P. T\itchen'e supervision. All going well in the meantime Blackman wilj: compete in hurdle events at Trentham next month. A DANNEVIRKE PROSPECT. The Gainscourt gelding Red Rufus has been working very attractively the ..last few weeks at Woodville, and has never looked better than he does at present. Red Rufus has always shown his best form under winter conditions, and is engaged in the principal flat event at the Dannevirke Hunt meeting op Wednesday, after ■ which he is to go to Trentham. MAY RACE OVER HURDLES. The race Lord Val had at Tauranga has benefited the Valkyrian gelding a good deal and he will be in good order for' his engagements at the Wellington meeting if the trip eventuates. Lord Val has. Had some schooling over hurdles recently, .and it is evidently intended to give him a further trial as a jumper. He has been entered for hack hurdle events each day at Trentham. WAS SUCCESSFUL LAST WINTER. Although Prince Acre failed to win a race at the Great Northern meeting, his form was encouraging, his best effort-being a dead-heat for third place with Gay Rose . in tke King George Handicap. At , the approaching Wellington meeting Prince Acre has only 21b above the minimum in : the Stewards' Handicap, six furlongs, and if started he is likely to beat more than I will beat him. He won the latter event at the Wellington meeting twelve months I ago-and also finished second to Guarantee ,/ in the Onslow Handicap, run over a siniilar •' distance at the' same fixture. The "going ; was very heavy oil that occasion, and the conditions were in Prince Acre's favour.

FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT. Peter Beckford, winner of the Greenmeadows Handicap at the Napier Park meeting last Tuesday, is a. three-year-old gelding by Hunting Song from Sarty, and is therefore a full-brother to Good Hunting. Peter Beckford, who is owned by Mr. G. D. Beatson, of Hastings, is reputed to be a speedy hack, and a good future is predicted for him. This three-year-old is engaged at the Wellington meeting. WORTH KEEPING IN MIND. Hunting Jay, who beat a large field in the Vittoria Hurdle Race at Trentham last July, is engaged in the same ev'ent again and has been awarded top-weight (11.4). This jumper made his reappearance after a lengthy spell at the Napier Park meeting last Tuesday, when lie ran unplaced in the Waiohiki Hurdles. At his best he is a class hurdler, who should be worth keeping in mind during the present jumping season . ; . HAS NOT BEEN OVERTAXED. , During H. Rama's absence from Ellerslie nothing of a serious nature . has been exacted from his three horses —Horowheniia, Tooley Street and Horotiu. However, they are working regularly, and the trio, who look bright and healthy, could be got ready to race at short notice. Horowlienua and Tooley Street may make their next appearance at the Wellington winter meeting, where they figure in the principal flat events.
