POPULATION NEEDS.
FARMERS SHOW CONCERN. IMMIGRATION SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, Friday. The need for a greater population in the Dominion in the event of war was emphasised at a meeting of the MidCanterbury executive •of the Farmers' Union on receiving from the Dominion executive details of the Furniss scheme to overcome the shortage of farm labour by immigration. , ~ , Mr C. A. Campion declared that if New Zealand did" not have 10,000,000 people in the next; decade the .country would be in the hands of .foreigners. . It was decided that the group delegates to the Dominion conference should seriously consider the immigration policy.
