WHANGAREI CONFERENCE.

PRESENTATION OF REPORTS,

WHANGAREI, Wednesday.

The Auckland Auxiliary of the New Zealand Baptist Union concluded 'its forty-fourth annual meeting at Whangarei yesterday. The Rev. C. Chant occupied the chair, and 51 delegates responded to the roll call.

The annual report was presented by the secretary, the Rev. J. Hiddlestone, and the audited balance-sheet by the treasurer, Mr. W. Bigelow.The total revenue had been £800 and the.!ye4r closed with a credit balance of £3L The circulating loan fund had a capital -of £2802, which was used to aid 22 churches by loans free of interest, to be repaid in annual instalments.

Mrs. Kretclimar presented the report of the Baptist Women's Missionary Union, Miss Kendon the report of the Young Women's Bible Class Union, the Rev. °J. D. Jensen the report of the Young Men's-Bible Class Union, and Mr. Thos.°E. Whitton the annual report of the Manurewa Children's Home. Mr. H. H. Driver gave a summary of the reports sent in"by the churches comprised in the auxiliary, which led to a healthy discussion on the position and prospects of the Baptist cause in this province. The Rev. C. Chant gave as his presidential address "Hindrances to Church Progress," which detailed some of thfe difficulties of Christian work in these secular days and the best methods of meeting them.

Among the resolutions adopted was one felicitating His Majesty the King on the first celebration of his birthday since his accession ti> the Throne; another urging that in view of . the grave condition of world politics and the important developments in the Dominion, public and believing prayer be made for kings and those in authority; a third deplored the increasing tendency to turn the day of rest into a day of pleasure, and for many into a day of toil.

At the closing meeting the Rev. H. G. Goring gave an address on "Conversion as a Continuous Reality," and the Rev. P. L. A. Crampton, 8.A., one on "Reality in Religion."
