AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD

SATURDAY'S CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES. KING'S BIRTHDAY ATTRACTIONS. At the meeting of the control board of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, arrangements for Saturday's series of championship matches, commencing the second round, were finalised. Reporting on the King's Birthday programme for Tuesday, when the Wellington team will meet Auckland and the Auckland Maori team will meet an Auckland side, it was reported that the Wellington team with two emergencies, Messrs. V. M. Simpson (chairman of the Wellington Rugby League) and E. J. Elliott, as managers, and three other officials, will arrive by the Limited at 9.40 a.m. on Monday. The visitors will be accorded a Mayoral reception and in the evening will be the Auckland League's guests at the boxing contest at the Town Hall. On Tuesday the Wellington team will be taken for a drive around the city, and, after the match, will dine with the members of the board at the Commercial Hotel, and leave by the 7 p.m. express on return to Wellington.

It was decided to „ask the Referees' Association to appoint the referees for the fixtures for Tuesday's matches.

It was decided to take steps to correct an allegation that Carlaw Park main playing urea was not a full-sized standard ground.

A request for the broadcasting of a Test with the British team was referred to the New Zealand Council.

The English Rugby League team to-day defeated Mackay, Queensland, by 40 points to 17, after dominating throughout the inntch in both the forwards and backs.
