DRAINAGE BOARD SCHEMES. STREET WORKS FOR THE YEAR. Discussion 011 the movement to form a drainage board for the North Shore districts, which originated with the Devonport Borough Council, took place at the meeting of the Northcotc Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. R. Martin, said that the reason for the proposal was that legislation was anticipated that would embrace the northern areas in the larger metropolitan drainage area. He had always hesitated about such a proposal because of the overhead charges and the benefits that would accrue to the districts over the water. The deputy-Mayor, Mr. E. C. Fowler, said that the council was not committed in connection with the resolutions that were passed at the drainage conference on June 11. It was decided the council should consider the matter at a meeting to be held in July. The maintenance, channelling and kerbing of streets in the borough, for which £1000 has been provided in the estimates for the year, was discussed at some length and the engineer was instructed to draw up a schedule for the allocation of the money. It was decided to approach the Labour Department with the object of obtaining a subsidy for additional men who may be employed in the work. A request for the floodlighting of Stafford Park was received from the League Football Club and it was granted. The St. John Ambulance Association was granted permission to hold its annual street appeal for funds in the borough 011 October 2.
