MR. JOHN WILLIAM TWEEDIE.

The death occurred at Wellington of Mr. John William Tweedie, at the age of si> years. As a stonemason, Mr. Tweedie was well known throughout New Zealand, having been foreman stonemason on some large works in the various centres. Born in Cumberland, ill*. Tweedie came to New Zealand about :)0 years ago and immediately followed his chosen calling as a stonemason. Some of the principal jobs on which he was foreman of the mason workers were the Cathedral and University at Duncdin, the Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Auckland railway station. He was also the first foreman over the stonework at the Parliamentary Buildings at Wellington, and for the past three years had been in charge of the masonry work at the National Art Gallery and Dominion Museum at Wellington. At the time of his sudden death he was in charge of the mason work for the Government Life Insurance building. Although he took 110 active part in j sport in New Zealand, Mr. Tweedie was keenly interested in Rugby League football and cricket and always found pleasure in attending amateur sports gathering's. He was a member of the St. Andrew's Masonic Lodge in Dnnedin.
