BUS SERVICE REQUESTED. DEPUTATION TO BOARD. Tlie establishment of a bus service between Manukau Road and Balmoral whs sought by a deputation from the Balmoral Business Men's Association, which waited to-day upon the Auckland Transport Board. Mr. A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, in introducing' the deputation, said tlie population of the district, as shown bv the census returns, had increased by 10 per cent. There were also increases in postal and building activities. Mr. E. R. Greenfied said the deputation desired to obtain a bus service linking Manukau .Road and the inter-section of New North Road and St. Luke's Road. There was no inter-conununica-tion between the tram terminus, ami residents were obliged to take taxis or to walk. The board would have 110 capital outlay and should find the undertaking profitable. The association would see that the service would be well supported. The deputation considered that two buses, running continuously, would meet the needs of the residents and asked that a service, as proposed, 6e given a three months' trial. Mr. O. L. Fletcher spoke in support of the request. The chairman, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, asked whether the association would consider subsidising a service. Mr. Greenfield said he thought the association would do so, provided it were admitted into a "partnership" and allowed to participate in the profits. (Laughter.) The matter was referred to the next meeting of the board in committee, the manager to furnish a report.
