ENCOURAGING THRIFT.
CAPITOL CHILDREN'S CLUB,
A pleasant ceremony took place at the Capitol Theatre, Dominion Road, this afternoon when 32 children, members of the Capitol Children's Club, were each presented with a Post Office Savings Hank pass book with a first deposit entry. The deposits ranged from 3/3 to 1/. To-day's ceremony is an outcome of the formation of the club two years ago by Mr. E. It. Greenfield, who conceived the idea to form a club and to award prizes every school term. Up till recently the prizes had taken the form of books, cameras, fountain pens and other gifts, but now, in order to encourage thrift, this has been changed, and in future the awards will take the form of bank deposits. The membership at the end of the first week was about 100, and to-day has reached close on 900.
The encouraging of thrift among the club members has been welcomed by the Post Ollice Savings Bank department, and this afternoon an official of the Department attended the Capitol Theatre to receive the deposits from the management and to issue the pass books to the children. The youngest prizewinner, a tiny tot, aged four years, proudly showed her mother her first and very own bank book as she toddled off the stage.
