The outstanding performance in the series of county cricket games, which began on Wednesday, was a great score of 2SO not out by the Welsh player, R. -Duckfield. This enabled Glamorgan to secure a first innings victory at The Oval. Here the Surrey batsman, A. Sandham, made his 102 nd century in first-class cricket. The most successful bowler was J. Cornford (fast medium), whose six for 42, and five for 38, gave Sussex a big victory over Somerset, at Hove. On this ground last summer Cornford placed many capital achievements to his name. Hampshire defeated Lancashire on the first innings at Liverpool, and, although totalling only 153 Leicestershire, captained by the New Zealander, C. S. Dempster, also secured minor points from Worcestershire. Results and principal feats:— Yorkshire: First innings, 242 (Sims six for 98); second, 105 (Allen four for 40). Middlesex: First innings, 102; second, six for 77. Yorkshire won on the first innings. Glamorgan: First innings, six for 550, declared (Duckfield 2SO not out, Brierley 94); second, four for 106. Surrey: First innings, 402 (Squires 71, Fisliloek 81, Sandham 104). Glamorgan Avon on the first innings. Gloucestershire: First innings, 95 (T. B. Mitchell seven for 20); second, 194 (A. Pope four for 29). Derbyshire: First innings, 200 (Worthington 90); second, none for 91. Derbyshire won by 10 wickets. Hampshire: First innings, 293 (Boves 101 not out); second, 200. Lancashire: First innings, 202 (Watson 115; Hermanseven for 71); second, two for 60. Hampshire won on the first innings. Worcestershire: First innings, 101 (H. Smith five for 36); second, eight for 205 (Warne 78). Leicestershire: First innings, 153 (Perks five for 64). Leicestershire won on the first innings.

Sussex: First innings, 166 (Wellard six for 04); second, nine for 292, declared (James Langridge 82 not out). Somerset: First innings, 124 (J. Cornford six for 42); second, 76 (J. Cornford five for 38). Sussex won by 25S runs. Warwickshire: First innings, 22S (Wyatt 107); second, six for 179, declared. Northamptonshire: First innings, 179 (Hollies six for 65); second, seven for 159. Warwickshire won on the first innings. Minor Counties: First innings, 251; second, 294. Oxford University: First innings, 288; seeor'id, none for 23. The match was drawn. Cambridge University: First innings, 207; second, 220. Essex: First innings, 175; second, five for 256 (Pearce 110 not out). Essex won by five wickets.

Only nine others besides Sandham made 100 three-figure scores in the history of first class cricket. They were: J. B. Hobbs 197, E. Hendren 156, C. P. Mead 151, F. E. Woolley 139, H. Sutcliffe 131, W. G. Grace 126, W. R. Hammond 106, Tom Hay ward 104, E. Tyldesley 102. Don Bradman, in eight seasons, has 54 threefigure scores to his credit, of which no less than 24 were over 200.
