TROTTING.

WHEEL AND TRACK NOTES. WILL REACH GOOD CLASS. The American pacer U. Scott was very unlucky at the start of the Winchmore Handicap at AshburtoA Immediately the barriers were released another horse ran across in front of him and this cost him several lengths. Once he got a clear passage he travelled very fast and came home resolutely to beat all but Credit Funds. He promises .to develop into a good class pacer next season. GOOD ENTRIES. A feature of the entrance list for the Auckland meeting is the large fields in the novice and improvers' classes, which are reminiscent of what was a common occurrence at Auckland meetings a few years ago. Two classes that have drawn useful fields in which the evenness of the horses is a striking feature are the 3.31 pacers' and 4.54 trotters' events. With very; few exceptions those listed in both sections have displayed good winning form during the season and from a speculative point of view these particular items will prove a fine asset. DOES NOT STAY. Although she has yet to win a race, Worthy Princess has shown more speed than the average trotter, but a decided lack of stamina has found her wanting over the concluding stages of a fast-run mile and a half. She gave two splendid displays at the Auckland February meeting, but when raccd at Cambridge and Claudelands stopped badly over the last furlong after being one of the leaders into the straight on each occasion. Worthy Princess has suffered a good deal from leg troubles in the past, but her trainer, W. Hughes, appears to have succeeded in effecting a cure, and she is now going along soundly. Worthy Princess has been accepted for in the Winter Handicap at Epsom next Saturday and is quite equal to effecting a surprise.

A FINE PACER. The two outstanding performances of King's Warrior at the Wellington Trotting Club's March meeting are still fresh in the minds of admirers of this good horse, and during this time of the season when ' officials are taking stock of the material' likely to be available for the New Zealand Trotting Cup and other important handicap contests that will come up for decision next season, the prospects of such horses as King's Warrior are of interest. Those who saw King's Warrior record his two wins at Hutt Park, which he did in a sensational manner, are not likely to forget him. He went to a bad break at the start and from what appeared to be a hopeless position well back of the field he staged a,, phenomenal finish to beat Queen's Author by a neck. Then on the second day he committed a similar error when the barriers were released and lost fully 50 yards, yet he gathered his field four furlongs Jfrom home and won bv a length with liis driver sitting still. Those two wins marked his ninth success out of ten starts this season and_ he has overshadowed everything in the North Island over all distances and under all conditions. He has not appeared since the Wellington Club's last meeting, but has been kept in steady work. He is at present on 4.28 for two miles and he will probably have to win two more twomile races to qualify for the next New Zealand Trotting Cup. This, no doubt, is well within his compass. He has ample opportunities to accomplish that mission, for there are suitable classes for Jinn at the approaching winter meeting at Epsom, and three clays at Addington in August. King's' Warrior is a black five-year-old gelding by Blue Mountain King a mare by Advance, which was a hierh-class three-year-old in his day. King's Warrior is owned by Mr. W. L. Lincoln and is trained at Takanini by F. J. Smith.
