STABLE AND TRACK NOTES

PELAGIA SOLD. Mr. Gerald Stead reports the sale of the brood mare Pelagia, in foal Bambury. This mare will visit the Foxlaw | horse Foxbridge, this coming season. t l RESUMED WORK. After a short spell Knocktin and Tunneller have rejoined Mrs. J; Campbell's team at Riccartou. Both horses are reported to be in good order to undergo a further preparation, and will be got ready for the Grand National meeting tq be held in August. ——— I FOR WINGATUI. Red Top, who did not shape very prominently at Asiiburton on Saturday, is remaining at Riccartou in charge of E. Redmond until his departure for the Dunedin meeting later in the month. This novice ljut up a smart gallop a few mornings ago and is regarded as a promising sort in the south. I OVERSEAS JOCKEYS. R. Watson and A. Sibbritt. two jockeys who have been visiting Auckland recently, will leave for Dunedin by 'plane on Monday. They have several riding engagements at Wingatui, including some of tiie horses they rode in Canterbury and on the West Coast prior to their arrival in Auckland. A.J.C. DERBY CANDIDATE. It is likely that the promising colt Black Friar will be sent over to Sydney this spring, where lie is engaged in the A.J.C. Derby. This handsome son of Gascony revealed undoubted stamina in his races as a two-year-old and gives indications of developing into a line stayer next season. CROSS-COUNTRY CANDIDATE. Joppa lias rejoined McCarthy's stable at Riccartou. During his holiday in North Canterbury lie has qualified with the Brackentield Hunt, and will be eligible'for hunters' events at later steeplechase meetings. Joppa is a half-brother by Jericho to tiie useful Polity and is'held in the same interests. — l HIS FIRST SUCCESS. When Warehi annexed the Kangiuru Handicap at Otaki last Saturday lie led from end to end and returned his supporters a double-figure dividend. He is a live-year-old gelding by Gainscourt from Raukura, by Absurd from the All Black mare Hine Pango. Warehi, who is owned and trained by R. Penman, of Otaki, had never previously won a race. WELL-BRED YEARLINGS. Further additions to F. Davis' already large team of youngsters are two from Mr. J T. H. Lowry's Okawa Stud. A typical Hunting Song is the brown colt from , Fintry, a daughter of Desert Gold by Chief 1 Ruler, while the other is a half-sister to j Gold Trail by Hunting Song from Pure ■ Gold. This one is regarded as one of the j most attractive rising two-year-old fillies | seen this season. I

' TO RACE AT WANGANUI. j Latest reports from Ilawera state that Supreme Court lias not been overtaxed of late and is now carrying a little more con- . ditioii than lie usually does. has been shaping well in short sprints recently and will be in good order for the Wanganui ' meeting, which openis to-day week. So I far Supreme Court lias not won a race | beyond seven furlongs, but lie is to be ■ tried over longer distances at Wanganui. DOING WELL AT HAWERA. Corowa has been showing marked improvement in his track work recently (says our ilawera correspondent). A tew mornings ago he decisively- accounted lor Dancing Lady over seven furlongs, run in 1.35 1-5. Alter going fast over tlie early stages Dancing Lady stopped badly over the last coupie of furlongs ana Corowa J beat her easily by several lengths. Both these hacks are due to compete at the ! Wanganui meeting. A PROMISING HURDLER. Blue Tiger was responsible for an impressive performance when he scored over hurdles at the last Dannevirke meeting at the first time of asking. Unfortunately lie gave himself a knock, which put him aside ror a week or two, but is now working freely again at Woodville and schooled well the other morning over four fences. Blue tiger's next outing will be at .Napier Park next week, where he is engaged in the hurdle events. He will be riddeu by C. McGoveru.

ABSENT FROM THE TRACK. j King Mestor has been absent from the | Ellerjlie tracks since the Great Northern l meeting. Jie contested the Orakei Hurdle | Race on the final day of that fixture and pulled up very lame. The trouble looked to be serious and the King Lti gelding may be off the scene lor some tune. It is i hard luck for the trainer, E. S. Groat, to lose the services of King Most or so early in the jumping season, as the horse was j just coming to his best and was a very j promising hurdler. ! HAS PROVED PROFITABLE. ' ! Onewhetu, winner of the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie and runner-up to Royal I Appellant on Saturday, was bred by Mr. |A. McC'raeken, of Manaia, but lie was ' acquired within a month of his foaling by I Mr. H. Nuku, of Okaiawa. Before he raced Mr. Nuku leased him to Mr. J. F. Kiley, of Hawera, with right of purchase for £300 after he had won £300 in stakes, but Mr. Kiley finally bought him outright I before he had started to win. He has | always been in charge of J. Fryer, at Hawera. His record reads: At tlirec,.years, 22 starts, 3 wins, 10 places. £380 in stakes; •at four years, 21 starts, 8 wins, 5 places, £1530 in stakes; totals, 43 starts, 11 wins, 15 places, £1910 in stakes. SOUTHERN JUMPERS IMPRESS. Solwit did not suffer any ill-effects from his hard race at Ashburton last week, and in fact seems better now than when lie entered the ranks of hurdlers (says a southern writer). His next appearance will be at the Oamaru Jockey Club's winter meeting at the end of the month, and with this in view he was jumped over three of the steeplechase brush fences at Riccarton recently. Ridden by G. Mutfitt, he showed the same ability over these as over hurdles, and the Oamaru obstacles, which are practically brush should not trouble him. His owner-trainer, J. B. Pearson, has also decided to give Fiord an opportunity over hurdles, and, ridden by Murfitt, the Valkyrian gelding shaped very promisingly over several pony fences. Fiord is on the small side, but gives indivations of developing into a capable and smart jumper.
