MATAMATA NOTES.
ROYAL DANCE WELL,
Royal Dance has gone on the right way since remaining at Te Rapa, and may be expect eel to race well on his next outing at Trentham, providing course conditions are favourable. He docs not handle soft going well. Royal Dance will be accompanied by the maiden Strongspear. The latter's track work has been nothing to enthuse over yet.
. Royal Dispute, who went lame while schooling at Ellerslie prior to the Great Northern meeting, has been sent back to Hawera by R. G. Mateer. This trainer will have Air Commodore racing at the Opotiki Club's meeting. This horse is in capital nick.
In addition to Valpeen G. Campbell is working Spear King, a gelding by Speardance from a Gravitation mare, thus a half-brother to Valuation. Similarity in the names, which are in reverse order, lead to a confusion between King Spear and Spear King. The former is also owned at Matamata.
Ardmanning, who is raced by the secretary of the Matamata Racing Club, Mr. B. C. Taylor, has been turned out and will be returned to liis Coromandel owner.
Other horses working satisfactorily here include En Tour, Count Roussillion, Scotland, Master Norval, Spearmarch and Valueless.
Mr. F. Rose, of Tirau, former owner of Heremia and Knight of Australia, is handling a yearling by Bronze Eagle—Eva Rose, and a two-year-old by Speardance— Betty .Rose.
One of the nicest looking youngsters seen here for a long time is a two-year filly three-quarter sister to Poi Dance, by Speardance—Marble Town. She is owned by Mr. F. Livingstone, and will race under the name of Speartown.
