PEARS IN DEMAND.

ORANGES SCARCE. WAIPAHI SHIPMENT ON MONDAY. Apples were slow of sale at the auctions to-day, pears, however, being in fair demand. There .whs a good inquiry for hothouse grapes and .fair., for Hothouse tomatoes. The market was. dull ■ for tree tomatoes and only' fair' for lemons. Oranges were in good demand and 'are rather scarce, but a Shipment of 7500 cases is to arrive by the Waipahi on Monday from Atiu and Miiuke, in the Cook Islands. New Zealand grapefruit arc now arriving in. larger quantities and selling at lower rates.

Passion fruit: 6/ to 12/ per case. Guavas: 4/ to 5/. Coconuts: 15/ per sack. Vegetables. Cabbage, cauliflower and onions were in heavy supply to-day, the prices being much lower than last week's. A good offering of kumaras sold at fair prices. Brussels sprouts were in short supply and realised high prices, while celery was a glut on the market. Quotations are:— Beet, 4<l to 9d per bundle; Brussels sprouts, 3d to 6V&d per lb; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 2/3; carrots. 6d to 1/ per dozen; cauliflowers, I 5/0 to 7/6 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 4/6 per dozen; cabbages, 1/6 to G/6 per sack; on benches, 1/6 to 3/ per dozen; hothouse cucumbers, 6/ to 8/ per dozen; hothouse French beans, 6d to 1/ per lb; green peas, 3/ to 14/ per case; kumaras, 3/ to 7/ per bag; leeks. Pullets: Heavy breeds, bpst, 3/ to 4/6; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/ to 4/6; smaller, 1/6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 2/3 to 3/3; smaller, 1/6 up; old, 1/G to 2/3. Ducks: Young, 2/6 to 3/6; old, 1/6 to 2/3. Guinea fowls: 2/6 to 3/6. Butter and Eggs. Egg prices have not altered since last Tuesday. Hen eggs: A grade, 2/1% per dozen; B grade, 1/1114; C grade, 1/8%. Duck eggs: A grade, 1/11% per dozen; B tirade, l/lO%; C grade, l/BMi. Farmers' butter, llVid to 1/2 per lb.
