When the Danish steamer Clara Jebsori arrived at Singapore her declaration papers showed there were 667 passengers on board. But the immigration officers who searched the ship and counted the pasj sengers found there were 804—of whom 137 were sto>vaways. Every available hiding place on the ship was being utilised by these stowaways. They lay under bunks, behind chests and machinery, among the cargo and in empty tanks. Lam Kee San, a Chinese, and several other members of the ship's crew have been charged with complicity in the stowing away of the passengers.
